Media

I blame the media. I blame the media for putting the idea in our heads that, in order to be attractive, we have to be so thin and so tall and wear certain clothes and do our hair a certain way.
The media has given us this ideal that we need to be as thin as a rail and as tall as a pole and only eat certain things and look like models. Tell me, do you want to be so skinny that you're unhealthy?
I didn't think so.
I blame the media for all the shit girls put themselves through. The women you see in billboard ads and in magazines? They don't really look like that. In fact, chances are, they look more like you than they do the images you see. Because the images you see? That's not them. That's what makeup, and hair curlers or straighteners, and fans, and Photoshop.
The girl you see me as, that's real. That's me. No photoshop, no makeup, just loving myself for who I am.
My friend just said "If the definition of beauty gets any thinner, nobody will fit."
Love yourself for who you are. Because you, just as you, are beautiful.

mean

kids these days. *sigh*

kids these  days are mean. just plain mean. and ruthless, and awful. my brother went to the Ryan Haligan assembly today. this kid's dad comes to my school every year and talks about bullying, and about what it did to his family.

his son killed himself because he was being bullied. because kids were spreading rumors. because kids were mean. its... i love kids. i really do. i love babysitting, and i love playing with little kids, but sometimes, i hate them. they can be really really awful. and the same goes for high schoolers. i can't STAND half the kids at my high school. they annoy the CRAP out of me. and they're just plain rude.

next time you're going to say something that might hurt someone's feelings, or isn't true, think. a lot.

fangirl crushes and fezzes

well. I WAS IN NEW YORK CITY AT THE SAME TIME AS KAREN EFFING GILLAN OMGOAHTIUEWAGHTIUEWGKDFBJKGUIWEHRFUAHGAJG'IEWHGIUWEATBG; WHAT IS THIS I CAN'T EVEN.
moving on. it has recently occurred to me how much of a fangirl crush i have on Arthur Darvill (AKA Rory Williams from Doctor Who) he's super cute and super nerdy and i just LOVE HIM.

i mean, JUST LOOK AT THIS MASSIVE HUNK OF ADORABLE. he's just too cute. sometimes i can't even stand it.

also, please enjoy this photo of Matt Smith in a fez. because fezzes (and bow-ties and stetsons) are cool.

baby i was born this wayyyy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzE1mX4Px0I
now, i'm not complaining. not even a LITTLE.

it seems like every time i turn on the radio nowdays (which, honestly, is not often) within the first hour of having it on, i hear at LEAST one song about feeling good about yourself.

WHAT HAS OUR WORLD COME TO?! I'M SO HAPPY.

seriously. it used to be all RAPPING AND GUNS AND SHOOTING PEOPLE AND SEX IN CLUBS. and now it's all 'feel good about yourself because you ROCK.'

maybe i'll start listening to the radio more often... if only they played disney songs :p

songs that make one feel good about oneself:

A Master

"A person who is a master in the art of living makes little distinction between their work and their play, their labor and their leisure, their mind and their body, their education and their recreation, their love and their their religion. They hardly know which is which, and simply pursue their vision of excellence and grace, whatever they do, leaving others to decide whether they are working or playing. To them, they are doing both," - some random zen guy.

To me, this quote means that if one loves what one is doing, it's hard for one to distinguish between work&play, and even harder for others to distinguish it.

RIP :(

RIP Connor Menning.
I didn't know you.
Hell, I went to a different school than you.
I don't know why you killed yourself.
All I know is that you did.
And I know that life sucks sometimes.
And so does the human race.
I just wish you hadn't had to take your own life.
I'm sorry buddy.
I wish somehow, we could go back in time and stop it from happening.
So even though I didn't know you, you're going to be sorely missed. By all.
We'll all wear purple tomorrow to honor you and the loss we've suffered, even those of us who didn't know you.
So RIP, Connor Menning.

I am me. Plain and simple.

Try and change that and I might just punch you in the head. Now remember before you read this post that I am bisexual. And damn proud of it.
This post is mostly because my best friend recently texted me saying that her mother told her that people who are gay and lesbian are "wrong" and "messed up". And when my best friend said that she didn't believe that's true, her mother responded with 'when you're standing at Heaven's gate, you're going to regret it.'
When I simply replied to the text with 'woooow. well other than that what's up?' she seemed kind of surprised and said "you don't even care that she said any of that?"
My response was simple.
I do care. But I know that I'm not messed up or wrong even if people think I am. I know I'm perfect the way I am. And I know that even if people do think it about other people, it's not true. So I'm not going to let it bother me.
Because I am me.
Plain and simple.

Christmastiiiime is heeeeere

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas :D
Some friends and I are getting together this coming Saturday and walking through the mall, arms linked, Singing Christmas carols. I'm super excited! We're even gonna do a flash mob like thing (we're hoping). If we do, we're gonna pull an Elf. One us is going to jump up on a chair randomly, and start singing Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, then someone else will join in, then someone else, and so on and so forth, until (hopefully) the whole food court is singing! Someone (probably my little brother) is gonna film it, so look out for the video on my youtube channel!
I dunno if we need some sort of permit for this, but I'm planning on going to the mall either tonight or tomorrow night with a friend to ask if we do.
What are you guys doing for the holidays? Are you going somewhere? Staying home? Lemme know!

Happy holidays, everyone!

Suffocation

I already complained about this to just about everybody and their MOM, but I'll say it here too.
Cleaning up my room I realized i have a ridiculous amount of notebooks (I'm a writer. So sue me.) and nowhere to put them. So until my room is all the way cleaned and I'm ready to get things to put all my notebooks in, I'm putting them in a large black garbage bag.
Its like suffocating myself. I practically live in my notebooks and the worlds and characters I create in them. It SUCKS.

light your torch mount your horse

OH GOD YOU GUYS.
opening night ROCKED.
Belle was GORGEOUS, Chip was ADORABLE, the Beast was AWESOME. (And... If i do say so myself, those gargoyles were pretty chill.) (ha. i'm not conceited. pffft)
All in all, it went really well. We got a LOT of applause and it was just.... amazing.
Other than the fact that I killed my elbow on my mom's coffee maker this morning, wore heels all day long so my feet hurt, then ran over my toe with one of the wagons for the show, it was... AHGIEWBGASLKDNFQEITHREWSAHTIEWTHASIGHRSLIGFQUWIEHGSRDKJGP(#WY@T@OGHR"2p963p49HGLSKDGFWRHNREQGTIL
There are no words to describe it guys. :D

Prejudice is Ignorace

I'm going to say pretty much the exact same thing here that I said on a clip on YouTube the other day.

This week's episode of Glee made my day. The fact that Darren Criss played an openly gay character at an all-guy's school where they have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment makes me wish that the world were more like that. My school is really similar, even though it's a public co-ed school. We have a GSA and even though there's still the odd 'gay' joke (which bugs me), we have a zero-tolerance policy. What makes me really sad is that there are people who are afraid to come out of the closet, because they're afraid of what their friends or family will say. Newsflash, guys! If they really are your friends, they're not gonna care if you're gay, straight, or bi. I'm bi and I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm not ashamed of it either. In fact, I'm pretty damn proud of myself for being who I am.
I wish that everyone could be as accepting as my school. As Robbie Ray recently said in an episode of Hannah Montana Forever (Yes I DO watch HMF, thank you very much.) "If grown men could hug like teenage girls, there would be no war."

As you go through your day, keep the Golden Rule in mind guys. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Part of Your World

Well now. This post is about both The Little Mermaid and being part of something different. I'll get into my "outfit design" for the Little Mermaid later.
Right now, I'm going to talk about a college I went to with my mom not too long ago. The college is called Keuka, and it's on the finger lakes in New York. It's a small school, but I really enjoyed it. It's a sweet campus, right on Keuka Lake, and about... I wanna say twenty minutes to an hour away from a town called Penn Yan, which I absolutely fell in love with.
I'm definitely going to apply there when I start applying to colleges. I need to look at some other schools, obviously, but Keuka would definitely be my first choice.

Now onto my "outfit design" for today! Little Mermaid inspired - Part of your World:
I feel like whenever someone says the word "Mermaid" people automatically think of Ariel from the Little Mermaid, and with good reason. With her beautiful red hair, her innocent, bubbly and quirky personality, and her odd group of sea creature friends, Ariel has engraved herself into the mind of every person who has ever seen the Little Mermaid.
This outfit is inspired by Ariel as a mermaid. So without further ado, here we go!

http://claremontclothing.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/v-neck-with-cap-sleeves2.jpg -  Purple like Ariel's seashell bra! :D Cause I mean, come on. What little girl didn't want to wear that seashell bra?

http://www.usadanceshoes.com/latin_ballroom_dancing_shoes_tango_swing_salsa/images/uploads/green-skirt-II.jpg - I'm a liiiittle bit in love with this skirt. It's super cute and would float all over the place when one twirled.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF6-DjA9E-GTsoB_OwZQcj-1VCQVteEJ0wn-9tXm57zSL4wjN5kHv68-2vPWa5YsaFjE_UDdU9n-YyW-yqXuxgMZ0H2CWgulwN0KjEuMsoExycdojyrtqRaM5k21dQuRLFTuzkHKShfUM6/s400/MossimoGenSuedeFlatAnkleBoots_Black.jpg - I wish these boots were lighter :p I'm rather upset that they aren't. But if one imagines them lighter, one can imagine them being Ariel's flippers, am I right?

http://oceangals.com/shop/images/n3085_necklack_nataulis_shell.jpg - This is very similar to the necklace that Ursula wears that has Ariel's voice trapped inside it, and that's the main reason I chose it. But it's also very pretty.

http://www.srirezeki.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/orange-glass-fish-earrings.jpg - Looky! Flounders! Almost.

So yeah guys. That's my Little Mermaid inspired outfit number one! Look for more coming soon :D

Beauty and the Beast

OHAI GAIZ.
Our fall musical this year is Beauty and the Beast. And I was inspired recently to make a design for a more modern version of Belle's dress in the ballroom scene for a rewrite of BATB I'm making called 'Izzy and the Beast'. Aren't I creative?
So I made my design in my sketchbook (Which will be posted on my deviantART account at some point in time) and decided to Google the things in the sketch I made, which consists of a dress, shoes, a necklace, earrings, a ring, and a hairstyle. The links I Googled can be found here (with "modifications" after each link according to my sketch):
http://www.polyvore.com/gold_yellow_flower_girl_dresses/thing?id=24456500 - Imagine this dress with more of a bubble skirt, strapless, and with a sweet little bit of lace peeking out at the bottom. Ya like? :)
http://www.sharplily.com/accessories/sam-libby-ballet-flats-3499/ - I'm a big fan of flats. I used to have a pair of black patent leather (I think?) ones just like this pair, which is why I think I was so drawn to them. Plus they're super cute.
http://www.uktights.com/product/761/kunert-40-denier-black-opaque-tights - The tights are mostly because I always thought it always looked a little chilly in the part of the movie after the dance between Belle and the Beast where they go out onto the veranda, and the dress I chose above is so much shorter than the gown Belle wears in the film, (Which, might I mention, I'm just the slightest bit in love with :D)
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEpPzHURl82TIMc6N1sjT7U8cdAM5JoHR0AuWm1DGOoLtPVhvKn7PS1G8xfsIjc07z2y2eawrgVM7StY_7g9jbvV2XM8iKfMsnHC5NQhcsyI-P1OiYNvsULjZYR1YUFwK3FLvvWTnsJz8/s1600/candel+necklace.jpg - This necklace is simply because - Hey! It's a candelabra. Like Lumiere! And come on, who didn't love the candlestick who was the ONLY character in the entire film with a legitamite French accent?
http://www.stylehive.com/bookmark/etsy-spoon-and-fork-earrings-137238 - I chose these earrings to represent one of my favorite songs ever, Be Our Guest. The tune is catchy, the dance is irresistible, and the lyrics are so much FUN. And it's about singing cutlery and dancing food. What could possibly represent it better than spoon and fork earrings?
http://www.etsy.com/listing/37377251/teapot-ring - Lookit that! Mrs. Potts and Chip all rolled into one adorable ring! I adore this. It's so sweet and simple, yet intricate at the same time. Very pretty.
For a hairdo like Belle's in the ballroom scene, I'd go with either curling your hair and pinning a few sections back or a bun that looks messy yet elegant at the same time (like this one: http://www.hdofblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/natural-curly-hair-updos-15.jpg).

Okay guys. Well that's it from me for today. Look out for more outfits inspired by Beauty and the Beast (the movie and the stage show) soon! I'm thinking of doing Belle's opening number outfit next?

Peace out guys :D

Confidence

One thing that really bothers me is how much the media screws with teenage girl's minds. Because of celebrities and models and just plain old low self esteem, there are girls with eating disorders, girls who think they're fat when they're really not, girls who think they need to be really skinny - unhealthily so - to get guys to notice them.
It makes me seriously upset that so many girls in our world today have low self esteem. Plenty of my friends have qualities that they like about themselves, but they have things they don't like too. I'm completely comfortable with who I am - both in the way I look and act. I have friends who are absolutely beautiful inside and out who don't think they are.
I guess it's a normal thing for teenage girls to dislike their appearance, or be insecure about themselves. I recently thought to myself that I know people at school who could be models. And I have friends who could be very... Different models.  I have friends who could be models, except that they're too short, or not thin enough.
But who cares, really? Not me. It really pisses me off that the media has had such a large influence on today's teenage girls. That's the main reason I started this blog. I'm a bit of a budding photographer (I'm not amazing, but I think I'm okay.) and I've always had this idea, ever since I was in 8th grade, that there should be a modeling agency that takes girls of all shapes and sizes, that it's not fair that only the "pretty skinny girls" get to be the models.
So I've decided to start this blog. Not to complain about the media or that girls have low self esteem, but to prove to girls that they can be beautiful no matter what they look like. I'm going to post photos that I take of my friends and of girls at my school and at some point, (if I get readers, haha) I'll ask you guys to send in photos and tell me something you like about yourself.
Thanks for reading guys. I'm hoping to get the first photos up sometime soon.
xoxo me :D
